Lessons From the Workshop

Sanding Block

What is it?

A sanding block is simply a block of hardwood or some other material that you secure sandpaper to in order to have a firm and stable surface to sand with.

Why was it needed?

Sanding without a backing of some kind can lead to inconsistent pressure during the sanding process, leading to inconsistencies in the wood. A sanding block allows you to apply consistent pressure across the entire surface of the sand paper as you work it. These blocks can be made in various sizes and shapes, allowing for a variety of uses.

What did I learn?

Making tools doesn’t have to be complicated. All this required was two pieces of scrap wood and a couple of bolts.
