What is it?
This is a handmade, leather bound cookbook with an olive canvas spine sewn on. It has two screw posts to hold the pages in, enabling us to add, remove, and shuffle recipes as needed. Inside is a custom recipe template I created so every recipe is easy to read and understand for our family.
Why was it needed?
Our recipes were scattered between a three ring binder, saved PDFs on our phones, and a couple other locations. It was becoming obnoxious at times to remember where certain recipes were located and I wanted to consolidate them. It would’ve been easy to print them all out and add them to the binder, but I was already working with leather on another project and decided to see what I could come up with.
What did I learn?
I didn’t know that leather is made up of a bunch of little fibers. What’s neat is that with a tiny bit of moisture and some friction, you can burnish the edges and create a smooth edge.
